Status Epilepticus

A seizure lasting more than 5 minutes, or multiple seizures without regaining consciousness in between. This is a life-threatening emergency.

First-Time Seizures

Any new-onset seizure in an adult requires urgent evaluation, especially if accompanied by confusion, fever, or a severe headache.

New Focal Deficits

Prolonged weakness, numbness, or inability to speak after a seizure (Todd's paralysis) that does not quickly resolve.
